Benchware 3D Explorer

Benchware® 3D Explorer 2.6 is the current release version, and features a number of customer-requested enhancements, including:

  • Flexible ligand alignment: 3D Explorer allows users to align small molecule structures flexibly to rigid template molecules.
  • Rigid Ligand alignment: 3D Explorer 2.6 also allows rigid alignment of a small molecule to a rigid template. The method should be used only to get molecules into the same region of space; flexible alignment should be employed to develop hypotheses regarding structural similarity.
  • Implementation of the MMFF94s force field
  • Direct recall of protein structures from RCSB: users can now retrieve the relevant pdb files directly from RCSB without having to navigate to the RCSB site with their web browser. Import direct from RCSB allows multiple pdb files to be retrieved
  • Display and automated update of Lipinski Properties in the 3D sketcher: The 3D molecular editor toolbar now displays Molecular weight, logP, # acceptors and # donors molecular properties for the ligand that is being edited.
  • Improved display manager: Hovering the mouse over the name of a ligand molecule in the display manager will now display a tooltip containing the 2D structure of the molecule.
  • Vastly improved depth cueing/fog
  • TPSA property: TPSA is now available as a new property in the molecular properties dialog.
  • Modify ligand options are now sticky: 3D Explorer will reuse the same modify ligand settings for what to auto-minimise and whether to display H-bonds and bumps from session to session.
  • New dialog for expand by radius: users can specify an exact radius for selection expansion.
  • Support for Symyx Draw: 3D Explorer now supports the use of Symyx Draw version 3.2 Enterprise Edition as an integrated sketcher similar to the earlier Chemdraw integration.
  • Zalman monitor Hardware stereo support: 3D Explorer now supports display of hardware stereo graphics using the Zalman LCD monitor and passive glasses system. This system is currently the only available system (at the time of release) that supports hardware stereo for Open-GL applications using an LCD monitor. Further information on the Zalman monitor can be found at (note that the 22” version of the monitor is under $300): http://www.zalman.co.kr/eng/product/product_read.asp?idx=219 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824118001

System Requirements

Benchware 3D Explorer will run on PC hardware running Windows XP or VISTA (32 bit versions only).

Minimum system configuration:

  • Pentium III or Athlon 1.0 GHz processor or faster (1.5 GHz recommended)
  • 128 MB of memory (256 MB recommended)
  • 50 MB of free disk space
  • Windows-compatible graphics card
  • Additional memory and processor speed will provide improved performance.
  • Hardware-accelerated OpenGL graphics hardware is required for optimal Benchware 3D Explorer performance.
  • Stereo-in-a-window viewing requires the use of specialized stereo glasses, an emitter, a stereo-capable graphics card, and a high refresh rate monitor (118Hz or better recommended) or use of the Zalman stereo LCD.

Note: Benchware 3D Explorer was previously marketed as LITHIUM.
